Late post is better than no post. I thought I got myself into a right Barney last night, as my computer didn’t want to boot, but I finally got it working, just in time to recover this week’s post.
Cockney rhyming slang is ever-changing, with new rhyming slang still emerging — although modern rhymes tend to rhyme with celebrities rather than everyday objects or phrases — for example, this week’s Cockney rhyming slang “Barney“. It’s most famous use is probably by the character Basher (Done Cheadle) in the 2001 version of Ocean’s Eleven.
As Basher aptly explains, “Barney” is shortened from Barney Rubble, which rhymes with “trouble”.
Until next week, grab a new Cockney wallpaper from below, and be sure to stay out of Barney.
